Call Across USA Moving & Storage to set a date for an estimator to visually survey your home and prepare an estimate.
Show the estimator everything that is going to be moved. Any items you fail to disclose or that are added later to the shipment will increase the cost, even if you have been given a binding estimate. Let your estimator know if you will be packing or if you want our experienced moving team to do the packing for you.
Read the "Your Rights and Responsibilities Manual" to make certain that you fully understand the extent of the carrier's liability.
Sign the Estimate after you are sure you have a clear understanding of each section. If you have any questions, ask your sales consultant to explain.
Keep the phone number and name of your sales consultant handy.

Two to Three Weeks Before Moving Day Back to Top
Notify your sales consultant if you add or remove any items from your item list or if you need to change you move date.
Confirm any extra stops required to pick up or deliver goods to a location other than the main pickup or delivery points.
If your car is being moved, re-confirm with the company that is shipping your auto.
Preparing Household Items:
Discard propane tanks which are used for barbecue grills.
Prepare your major appliances for shipment. Front loading washers & dryer need to have stabilizing kits in place before shipment.
Federal law requires that you dispose of flammables such as fireworks, cleaning fluids, matches, acids, chemistry sets, aerosol cans, ammunition, and poisons such as weed killer. Drain fuel from your power mower and other machinery. Discard partly used cans of oil, paint, thinner, bleach, or any other substances that may be flammable or combustible or those stored in containers that may leak. Please read the complete list of non-allowables.
Set a date for having utilities disconnected. If possible, plan to keep utilities in service through moving day.
Do not clean your upholstered furniture before moving. Moisture could cause mold if furniture must be placed in storage.
One to Two Weeks Before Moving Day:
Pet and Plants we cannot transport live plants. Give them to a friend or family member or take them with you if you are traveling by car.
Take pets to the veterinarian. Most states require health certificates and rabies inoculations.
See that identification and rabies tags are securely attached to your pet's collar.
Arrange for transportation of pets. Take them in the car or send via air.
The Day Before Moving Day:
If you are doing your own packing, make sure everything is ready to go before moving day. Make sure all your boxes are packed well. The movers will check the boxes.
If there are items in the household that are not going or being packed, mark them or move them to a room that you have designated for such items.
If our movers are doing the packing, place items that you want packed together into groups.
It is helpful to disconnect all electronics prior to the movers arriving.
Also disconnect all appliances.
Moving Day:
It is your responsibility to make sure that all your items are packed and loaded.
Do a final walk-thru. Check cabinets, closets, garage, storage cabinets and attics.
Sign all paperwork and make sure to fill in your "Ready Date". This will determine your delivery date. Make sure the delivery address is correct. Include phone numbers where you can be reached as the driver will be calling you prior to delivery.
Delivery Day:
The driver will contact you 24 to 48 hours prior to the delivery day. Be there to accept delivery.
Check your household goods as they are unloaded. If there is anything damaged or missing notify your sales consultant immediately and note it with the driver.
During the unloading process, the movers will place your items in the rooms you request.
Any beds that were disassembled will be reassembled. The movers will not unpack mattresses or any other boxes unless you have requested an "unpacking" service with your sales consultant at the time of booking.
To prevent possible damage, television sets, other electronic equipment and major appliances should not be used for 24 hours after delivery, allowing them time to adjust to room temperature.
One Week After Move:
Check with your new post office for any mail being held and ask for delivery to start.
Check state (and local) requirements for auto registration and a driver's license.
